The Dallas trails are a collection of many small interconnecting trails on Boise Cascade, Warehouser, BLM, and Dalton Rock land. The uphill climb is on dirt roads, and the decent is on single track except for a last few miles down the dirt road to the parking area. Be careful on the roads as there are both logging trucks and gravel trucks constantly bombing down the roads. The trails wind through thick forest and along the edges of clear cuts with occational natural jumps and hips. In the winter they are generally slick and muddy. In the spring and summer watch for poison oak on the lower trails. The area is often closed during the end of August and September due to fire hazard. The longest loop with the most climbing is called Burma Peak. For those looking for technical riding check out Witche's Brew and Gonzo. It is diffucult to describe all the Dallas trails because there is constant clear cutting and new alternate routes are always being established. Also, there are many old trails no longer in use and need rediscovering and cleaned up. (Like Tim Rotta's trail "Warlock".) Woodpecker is interrupted by clearcutting. Some of Hollow Log and Hobbit restored. New fast, open lines north of Tree Fort entrance head east below Gonzo!

Directions: First, stop at Santiam Bicycle for a map to help navigate the maze of trails in Dallas. It is recommended to ride with a person who knows the trails. An excellent resource is the Merry Cranksters who ride there often. (merrycranksters.org) Travel West on 22 then take the Dallas exit into Dallas. Continue West through Dallas past Safeway along Ellendale road. Continue out of town till you reach the intersection of Rob Mill Road. This is a three way fork. Take the middle fork over the small bridge onto the gravel road. Immediately park on the left side. At this point check your map and for the long ride, head West up the dirt road to the Burma Peak trail following the details on your map. Or, for a shorter ride, backtrack and ride up Rob Mill on the paved road. Take the left at the weigh startion down hill and cross the wood bridge onto the gravel road. Follow the map paying close attension to landmarks.
